Cardinal Pacelli Hosts Power of the Pen Tournament

For the first time ever, Cardinal Pacelli School hosted a district level Power of the Pen tournament. This interscholastic writing competition challenges students to write creative stories in response to open-ended prompts. On Saturday, January 28, 2023, students from 11 local schools visited Cardinal Pacelli to compete. The winners advanced to the regional tournament. Cardinal Pacelli’s team included seventh and eighth graders.

Teacher Anne Losekamp, the coordinator of the program, addressed the writers in the gym before the competition began. She said, “We are so thankful to have you here, and we are very excited to see what you write today.”

After the competition, Peter Steinert, a member of Pacelli’s team, reflected on his experience.  He said, “I learned a lot about writing that day and was given feedback by the judges to improve my writing.”

Cardinal Pacelli is the parish school of Our Lord Christ the King Church in Mt. Lookout. The Blue Ribbon school serves 400 students from preschool through grade eight. Visit www.cardinalpacelli.org for more information.
