Integrated Science is explored in all grades, through increasingly in-depth discovery as the student advances through the grades. Multiple teaching styles are employed, including demonstrations and hands-on activities and labs.
In grades 3-8, Cardinal Pacelli implements a curriculum in Science that is aligned to the Ohio Revised Science Learning Standards and the Graded Course of Study provided through the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Department of Education. To ensure that our students come to understand and generate explanations, arguments, models and facts related to science, the Science Fusion Program is used.
Science Fusion is a state-of-the-art Science program designed for building inquiry, STEM, and optimized for learning in the classroom, at home, on a laptop, a tablet, or using a science textbook. The digital curriculum, virtual labs and hands-on activities, and write-in science textbook develops important critical thinking skills that prepare students for success in future science courses and in the workplace.
Science Simple Solutions is used in grades 5 & 6 to solidify concepts in science in preparation for more advanced and in depth study.
Students in grades 7 & 8 use the Science Lab daily, with other grades able to use resources whenever desired. Students in grades 5-8 are also quizzed and tested on Greek/Latin root words in preparation for standardized tests.
